PETTEY, Melvin L. – of Flint, MI, age 82, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Tom Mattiuzzo officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Wednesday, August 16, 2023 and 11 AM-12 PM Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home.
Melvin was born in Flint, MI on August 26, 1940, son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Bowen) Pettey. He was a grocer for 43 years, working for Feke and Yott Grocery Chain and Hickory Meat Block Grocery Store.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose (Wersel) Pettey; 4 children, Rick (Kim) Pettey, Rashell Pettey, Richard (Craig) Pettey and Robert (Susan) Pettey; 5 grandchildren, Tristia (Megan), Ryan (Brianna), Jordan (Amberly), Amber (Jason) and Jacob (Venus); 2 step-grandchildren, Samantha and Mallory; 11 great-grandchildren, Liam, Evelyn, Paisley, Jackson, Harper, Isabella, Sophia, Macy, Levi, Janie and Viviana; 4 siblings, Margietta Miller, Phillip (Carol) Pettey, Ralph (Melody) Pettey and David Pettey; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Dorothy Pettey; 2 brothers, Marvin Pettey and Harry Pettey.
