Straus, Betty Jean of Flushing, age 90, died Friday, January 7, 2022, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Rossell Funeral Home. Fr. Prabhu Lakra will officiate. Private burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Family requests that all visitors wear masks during visitation. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing Area Senior Center or Powers Catholic High School.
Betty was born in Flushing, Michigan on January 29, 1931, the daughter of Carl and Leah (Higbee) Scharrer. Betty married Paul Straus on August 21, 1948, in Beal City, Michigan. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2005. Betty worked as a secretary for St. Robert Catholic School for many years. She was an active member of St. Robert Catholic Church and Flushing Senior Center. Betty enjoyed woodcarving and crafting. She also enjoyed quilting and was a member of Project Linus, who made and donated blankets for children in need. Betty was involved in the Flushing Area Historical Society and did genealogy research.
Betty is survived by her son, Paul (Sherry) Straus; daughter, Linda (Greg) Weirauch; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Jarrett, Sarah (David) Burke, Cydnee (Mitchel Robertson) Weirauch; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Brooks; sister, Lucille; and beloved dog, Tucker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Robert and Shirley.
