Thompson, Donald Francis of Clio, age 96, died Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at McLaren, Flint. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Garfield will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday and 12 noon Friday until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Donald was born in Flushing, Michigan on March 1, 1928, the son of George and Ruth (Freeman) Thompson. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Donald was employed by General Motors working at Chevy In The Hole, retiring in 1984. He was an avid rock hound. His favorite rock hunting spot was in Grand Marais in the Upper Peninsula where he enjoyed camping. He could skip rocks, and his love of rock collecting has been passed down through the generations. Donald was also a coin collector and has an extensive collection. He liked to bowl, even scoring a 300 game. Donald was always good for joke, and he loved getting together with his family and playing games.
Donald is survived by his wife, Iris; children, David (Kimberly) Thompson, Rhonda (Fred) Brender, Susan (Kevin) Kato, Marty (Bucky) Buxton, Chuck (Trenna) Munn, Patty (Neil) Shanafelt; daughter-in-law, Karen Roose; grandchildren, Brittany, Amanda, Jaclyn, Erin, Emily, Jaime, Aaron, Amy, Sarah, Charlie, Carrie, Josh, Jennifer, Christina, Billy, Andrew; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Brennan, Mason, Grace, Isaac, Lucas, Bethany, Mia, Christian, Kyle, Timothy, Gracie, Pamela, Joseph, Ryllie, Lyllian, Seth, Kyle; great-great-grandchildren, Cayleigh, Brayden; and sisters, Lois Swearingen, Joyce Leech. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Roose; daughter, Allyn Lutz; and brother, Bud Thompson. |
