Ruth Ann Durrance, known affectionately as Ruth to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, at Ascension St. Mary in Saginaw. Born on November 16, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of the late Donald David and Shirley Mae (Blake) Adams. Ruth's warmth, generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Ruth's journey began in Detroit, but her heart and home were truly with her beloved family. She is survived by her devoted husband, James, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring love. Together, they raised a family that includes their children, Michelle (James) Green, Renay (Dustan) Sowulewski, and Ruth (Jade) McAllister. Ruth's legacy continues through her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, who will carry her memory forward. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Chuck (Lisa) Adams, and sisters, Patricia (Walter) Anchor and Kim Peruzzi. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Shirley, and her daughter, Dawn Marie Tassell, whose memory she held close to her heart, also, her brothers; Harold, Lawrence, Kenneth, and John and her sisters; Nancy and Shirley.
For 17 years, Ruth poured her passion and hard work into Ruthann’s Kitchen in Corunna, a place that became more than just a restaurant—it was a community hub where she made everyone feel like family. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her community, as she often opened her doors and heart to those in need, ensuring that no one left hungry.
Ruth's interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. She loved her recent trips to Florida, where she found joy in the sunshine and relaxation. A fan of bingo and the excitement of the casino, Ruth also knew the value of simple pleasures and the comfort of home. She was the caretaker of her family, always ensuring that her house was a place of cleanliness, comfort, and love. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own doorstep, as she looked after the neighborhood kids, making sure they were well-fed and cared for.
Described by those who knew her best as loving, gentle, and selfless, Ruth's actions spoke volumes of her character. She was a beacon of kindness in her community, always putting others before herself and spreading warmth wherever she went. Her selflessness was a guiding light for her family, inspiring them to live with the same compassion and generosity that she embodied every day.
Ruth's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless stories of her love, her laughter, and the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love—a testament to a life well-lived and a woman well-loved.
A celebration of Ruths life will be announced by the Durrance family in conjunction with Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
