Age: 91
Community: Otisville, MI

Wallace (Wally) E Rae of Otisville, MI died January 9, 2022, at his home at the age of 91, due to complications from Leukopenia and Chronic Kidney Disease.
Wally was born January 15, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, to Ellis and Margaret Rae. He had two sisters, Barbara, and Donna. When he was around the age of 6 Wally’s family moved to Akron, MI. After graduating from high school, Wally attended Harding College in Searcy, AR where he met Julia Ann Houser. Wally and Julia were married June 1, 1950, in Searcy AR. While in college, Wally worked at various jobs. After college, Wally and Julia moved to MI, where Wally hired into LakeVille Community Schools as a teacher. He also preached at area congregations on weekends. In 1965, Wally helped plant the Otisville Church of Christ congregation, where he served as a preacher and elder, all while still working in the education field.
Wally’s favorite subject to teach was science. For a few years he served as head teacher and eventually principal of Otter Lake Elementary. When requirements changed for administration positions, Wally returned to the classroom, where he finished his 33 years at Lakeville as a 5th grade teacher. He is remembered fondly by his past students and recognized, even years later, by his hallmark cowboy hats and boots.
Wally loved working with the church, preaching and teaching classes, doing mission work, bringing many to the Lord. He also performed many marriage ceremonies and funerals. Wally had several hobbies. He golfed, put together models and Legos, and had a permanent train track setup in his basement. After purchasing a scroll saw, he spent much of his retired time in his workshop, creating stacked animals, silhouette scenes, and 3-dimensional artwork.
He is survived by Julia, his wife of 71 years, daughter Connie Cooper and husband Phillip of Flint, Mi, sons Bill Rae and wife Kendra of Vassar, MI and Ted Rae of Burbank, CA, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister Barbara, mother Margaret, sister Donna and Great- granddaughter Madison Rae.
