Mrs. Addie Mae Barnett-Hart was born September 29,1917 in Cleveland, Mississippi the daughter of Newt (Viola Floyd) Foley. She moved to Flint, Michigan after the death of her mother. She attended Flint Northern High School. Mrs. Hart was baptized in the Flint River at the age of 14 by Rev. Da’rrius. She married Mr. James Barnett out of high school and they had 3 daughters, Rogie,Norma and Arnetta. Her second marriage was to Mr. Charles Hart.
Mrs. Hart joined the Bethel United Methodist Church Family when services were held at the Clifford St. Center and at some of the elder members homes. Bethel United Methodist Church was being built the same time as Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church was developing their building on Kennelworth Ave.
The church started with a basement foundation. She helped in fundraising by cooking and selling dinners to help finance the building on 12th St. and Liberty. She served the church as an usher, undershephard and song in the senior choir.
Mrs. Hart enjoyed bowling, playing basketball, Pokeno and Bingo at the Brennan Center. Occasionally would take bus trips to nearby casinos. She traveled to California numerous of times, New Mexico and southern states which included Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana and Georgia.
After Rev. Da’rrius. Rev. Arthur Davis encouraged fundraising and Bethel acquired a choir under the leadership of Rev. William Teague.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters Rogie Barnett of Flint, Mi, Norma Barnett-West of Antioch, Ca., grandchildren, Roy Edward West III., Marcus James West, Marisa Washington and Monica Ponce.
A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Arnetta Barnett-Crawford, grandson, Damon Washington, parents and 11 siblings.
