HAMILTON, Michael “Mickey” Lister – of Flint, age 80, passed away May 11, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the church. A Rosary will be prayed 6 PM Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Korie Hamilton to establish an annual scholarship fund for future Genesee County educators, in Michael’s name.

Mickey was born in Flint, MI on June 29, 1941, son of the late Ferdenand and Mayme (Sullivan) Hamilton. He married Sandra Milliman on Nov. 20, 1965, and she preceded him in death on August 27, 2019.

Mickey graduated from St. Mary’s Flint in 1959 where he was a three-sport athlete, he then went on to Flint Junior College, where he continued his baseball career and obtained an Associate degree in 1962. He continued his education obtaining a BS in education at Eastern Michigan University in 1964. His first teaching position was at Flint Holy Rosary, where he spent seven years as a teacher, counselor and coach. Mickey was the head coach of the 1975 football team that played in the first ever MHSAA football state championships. During his years at Holy Rosary, he progressed in his education to acquire a MA in Guidance and Counseling at Eastern Michigan University in 1968. In 1976, Mickey moved next door to Kearsley High School, where he was a counselor and coach for two years and athletic director for twenty-three years. In his tenure at Kearsley, Mickey was instrumental in developing one of the state’s most outstanding athletic programs that continues today.

Mickey is survived by his sons, Darren (Jennifer) Hamilton and Lance (Korie) Hamilton; grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Olivia, Lauren, Griffin, Zachary (Savannah), Megan (Jay) and Daniel; great grandchildren, Desmond and Henry; sibling, Genora (Tom) Halligan, Eugene Hamilton, Lana (Michael) Zelley, Ellen (Gary) Root, Neil Hamilton, Rita (Tom) Rutter; sister-in-law, Marilyn Goyette; and many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; family members, Sam (Rosie) Hamilton, Mary Agnes Hamilton, Gerard “Jerry” Hamilton; brother-in-law, Tom Goyette and sister-in-law, Mary Pat Hamilton.
