HARRIS, Donald – of Davison, age 82, passed away January 12, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Friday, January 19, 2024, and the hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison Education Foundation at 1490 N. Oak Road, Davison, MI 48423 (810-591-0852).
Donald was born in Flint, Michigan, on January 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Walter and Lois (Thygesen) Harris. On September 26, 1970, he married Linda Yager in Flint, MI. Don completed his education at Davison High School in 1960 and later proudly served his nation in the United States Air Force.
His professional journey led him to a remarkable 37-year tenure at Buick, where he contributed his skills as an electrician until his well-deserved retirement in 2004. Outside of his career, Don cultivated a lifelong passion for farming. In 1971 he purchased a farm in Davison, where he raised beef cattle for the last 53 years. He was able to share his love of farming and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren who all lived close by.
Don found solace in the great outdoors, his love for hunting led to many adventures out West with family and friends. Later in life he was able to share his knowledge of hunting with his grandsons, he continued to hunt on the farm with them through his remaining years. A green thumb at heart, he was an avid gardener, dedicating countless hours to tending to his many flower beds and the garden he shared with his daughter.
Don's true happiness was found in the moments spent with his children and grandchildren. Family was his greatest joy, and his legacy is one of love, dedication, hard work, and a life well-lived.
Donald is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Jennifer (David) Racine, Don Jr. (Sara) Harris and Brian (Sarah) Harris; grandchildren, Megan, John and Andrew Racine, Blake, Garrett and Emma Harris, Grace and Allie Harris; sisters, Elaine Sass and Marilyn Alvord; close friend, Dave Terwilliger; many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
