FIEBERNITZ, Tyrus R. – Of Flint, age 88, died Thursday, January 20, 2022.
A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, with Pastor Coleen Wilsdon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that contributions be made in Ty’s name to VNA Hospice or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
Visitation 2 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Tyrus, or Ty to family and friends, was born on July 4, 1933, in Flint, Michigan to Fred and Lovie Fiebernitz, who preceded him in death.
Ty married Marcella Gauthier on November 25, 1955 and she preceded Ty in death in 2004.
Ty worked as a Pressman for the Flint Journal for 48 years, after serving honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Ty loved the game of Bridge and achieved Gold Life Master in Duplicate Bridge.
Ty was active in Boy Scouts and his church. Ty enjoyed stamp collecting, sport card collecting and reading.
He is survived by his son, David (Kasey) and daughter, Jeanne;
5 grandchildren, James Anderson, Tyler Kucharski and Kyle (Helen), Mitchell and Madison Fiebernitz;
8 great-grandchildren;
his sister, Beverly Limmer; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife Marcella, Ty was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Chuck and Melvin; sister, Evelyn and son-in-law, Lonnie Kucharski.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Annette and Ashley from VNA Hospice and the staff at The Landings of Genesee Valley for the care and comfort they gave to Ty.
