Died: 11/4/2023
Age: 98
Community: Fostoria, MI

Marian Alfretta Valentine, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023, at her home in Fostoria, Michigan. Born on October 24, 1925, in Flint, Michigan, Marian was a beacon of love, thoughtfulness, and faith throughout her 98 years of life.

Marian was a woman of many talents and interests. She earned her Master's Degree in Teaching, a testament to her lifelong passion for education and learning. She was an active member of her community, contributing her time and energy to the West Deerfield United Methodist Church, the Otter Lake Literary Club, and the County Normal Girls of North Branch. She also served with the United Methodist Women, demonstrating her commitment to service and her faith.

Marian had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved traveling, especially to her cabin in Mio and her home in Florida, where she spent over 48 winters. An artist at heart, Marian found joy in painting and working on her flower gardens. She was an avid reader and enjoyed social gatherings and dinners. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.

Marian is survived by her children, Sue Ann Valentine-Hall, Mary Jo Valentine, Tom (Debby) Valentine, and Rick (Kim) Valentine. She was a loving grandmother to Jody, Brandy (Chris), Jason (Melissa), Ben (Jessica), Amber, Hunter (Allie), Ashley, and Chase (Nikki). She was also a doting great-grandmother to Chris, Jacob, Natalie, Hannah, Seth, Eli, Lucy, Maddie, Colin, Carter, Campbell, and William. Her cat, Fraidy, also survives her.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Barbara Chaplin, her step mother Mabel, her husband, Tom, and her sisters, June and Betty, and aunt Alfretta. Despite these losses, Marian remained a pillar of strength and love for her family, embodying the quote by Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Marian Alfretta Valentine was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know and love her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
