Adams, Frances Katherine (Cervenak)of Flint, age 92, died Saturday May 22, 2021, at Woodhaven Senior Community in Flint where she resided since 2013. Fran was a first-generation American, born in Flushing, MI, on November 24, 1928, to the late Anthony and Marie (Valasek) Cervenak. She married Frank H. Adams on April 24, 1948. Fran touched many lives through her work as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint and later as a Home Care Nurse. Together, Fran and Frank helped many people struggling with the impact of alcoholism through their involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, as well as the Let Go Let God Gratitude Retreats in Woodbridge, MI. The pair were also active members of the Friendship Club, where their parents, all immigrants from Czechoslovakia, were founding members. Fran’s baking skills, honed by competitions between the seven Cervenak girls, were frequently displayed in the wonderful pies (no one made a better pie) and Czech pastries that highlighted many family gatherings. She set a very high baking bar for subsequent generations. Fran had many other talents as well. In addition to raising six children, she had a beautiful garden, coaxed many beautiful orchids to bloom, crocheted and knitted, to name a few. With her many skills and caring heart, she made the world better through her presence.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on October 27, 2008. She is survived by their children, Kathleen and husband Michael Abbott, Maureen and husband Tim Riley, Cheryl and husband Marc Franke, Nancy Adams, Barbara Finch, Frank Adams and wife Dana Neely; grandchildren, James and Chad Abbott, Tracy McKeown, Betsy Burke, John and Brenna Riley, Peter Franke and Dorothy Coffman, Adam Patton and MariBeth Avendt, Amanda D’Antoni, Neva and Noah Adams; many loving great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanne Lee.
