In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, in Chuck’s memory.

Chuck was born in Flint, MI on March 1, 1937, son of the late Charles “Bill” and Icea (Schmoak) Monroe. Chuck joined the United States Air Force soon after high school, and was a serving member from 1955-1959. He served as a mechanic and was able to do some traveling while in the service, which later sparked a life-long passion. After he completed his military service, he met MaryEllen Jancar. They fell in love and were married on February 6th, 1960. They started their life together in Flint, then decided to move to the outskirts of Lapeer, where they raised two daughters and then the family grew from there. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1997.

In 1964, Chuck started work in Flint, MI at the GM AC Spark Plug as a millwright and specialized in vibration analysis which he taught. He was a member of the local UAW #651 and was able to retire after 30 years. In 1973, Chuck achieved one of his goals of flying and became a private pilot, then a commercial pilot in 1974. He really enjoyed flying and would take the family on some trips too. After MaryEllen’s passing, his hobbies became family and traveling.

Chuck was a world traveler - he had visited over 70 countries, and all 7 continents. He also had visited all 50 states in the United States; most of them were traveled to by driving his little minivan motor home or his little sports car. He always had pictures and stories to share. When he wasn’t traveling, he was spending time with his family. Whether it was a cookout at the pool, or a grandkid’s sporting event, you could count him in.

Chuck is survived by his daughters, Shari (Andy) Schlaud and MaryAnn (Dan) DeWitte; grandchildren, Andrew Schlaud II, Charles (Jessica) Schlaud, Elizabeth (Nick) Oswalt, MaryEllen (Tyler) St. John, Merideth DeWitte, and Audra DeWitte; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Harper, and Liam; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro, Michigan for their continuous care and compassion for the last five years and to the staff at Americans Home Health and Hospice Care.
