David Howard Parker was born on April 10, 1940, in Flint, Michigan to his proud parents R.G. Parker and Ruth Robinson Parker. At the age of 16, David had the good fortune of meeting Barbara Ann Summers at Rollhaven in Flint, Michigan. Their connection was so deep that at the age of 18, they embarked on a lifelong journey together, united in matrimony on June 2, 1958. After two years of wedded bliss they had their first child, Deidra Lynn. Next came David Scott, then Shawn Summers, and last but not least, Shane Tabatha. They were married for 58 years before she passed in 2016. Their love story is a testament to the strength of their bond and their commitment to each other. David's life was marked by a profound sense of duty. He served in the United States Navy, where he exhibited dedication, courage, and a strong work ethic. His commitment to his country and his fellow service members was a source of great pride for him. After his time in the Navy, David pursued a career as a fireman, a profession that reflected his unwavering bravery and his readiness to protect and serve his community. David was a motorcycle enthusiast who was proud to see his children and wife get involved in the motorcycle racing scene. Barbara sewed the leathers and he fixed and fine-tuned the bikes before every race. While he might have affectionately worn the title of "The Grinch", those close to him understood that beneath his gruff exterior was a heart of gold. After he became a widower in 2016, David's life took an unexpected turn. He met and fell in love with Jackie, a remarkable woman who had also experienced the pain of the loss of a lifelong love. Together, they found solace in each other's company and embarked on a new chapter in their lives. The last years of David's life were filled with a love and companionship that brought joy and comfort to his heart.
He leaves behind his wonderful children Deidra (Bill) Hensley, Scott (Wanda) Parker, Shawn (Marie) Parker, and Shane (Steve) Dawes as well as his sweetheart Jackie Irish. David had 14 beautiful grandkids and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Barbara Summers Parker, and his siblings Joyce and Robert Parker.
David's legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to David’s Great Grandchild John Hensley for Juvenile Diabetes Camp.
