LAVIGNE, Barbara Ann (Backe) - Of Grand Blanc, age 85, died Thursday, September 24, 2020 at her residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1pm Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw, Grand Blanc,
Father Dave Howell officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Paws Rescue or Medical Team Hospice.
Visitation 11am Thursday at church until the time of the Mass.
Barbara was born in Flint on June 11, 1935, the daughter of the late Melvin and Cecelia Backe of Grand Blanc and the wife of Fredric LaVigne. Her brother was Donald James Backe, LtCmdr; USN, Ret. who died in 2016 in Florida. Barbara was married to Fredric LaVigne at Holy Family by Rev. John Bush on September 18, 1979. Fred died on June 7, 2005. Barbara began her banking career on her 18th birthday at Genesee Bank on June 11, 1953. She retired in July 2000 with 47 years of “Perfect Attendance”. In 1999, she was honored as the “Employee of the Year”. Barbara graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1953. The past 20 years Barbara has volunteered her time and funds assisting seniors with appointments, shopping, resident moves, etc. She gave a 23 year old dog named “Trixie” a loving home the past seven years. Trixie passed on August 19, 2019. Barbara was a member of Holy Family for 52 years. She was the treasurer of the Ottawa Hills Homeowners for the past 20 years.
Surviving are beloved dog, Sweetie;
Special friends, Gloria Diem of Grand Blanc, Wayne Murray of Grand Blanc, Richard Larmor of Grand Blanc, Mike and Karen Gallagher of Bay City, Bob and Cleva Shegos of Grand Blanc;
and a host of special friends and neighbors.
