Evert “Skip” South, 75, of Lapeer, died Thursday January 30, 2014. He was born April 29, 1938 in Rochester to parents William and Ella (Whaley) South. He married Joan M. Roney on November 8, 1980 in Lapeer.
Mr. South served his country in the United States army. He worked over 35 years for Pontiac Motors, retiring in 1999. More recently, he worked as a janitor at Ray C’s – mostly for fun and socializing. Mr. South was real well known around town; a real “social butterfly.” He loved to camp, fishing, raising chickens and in the day: being on the C.B. Radio – that’s where the handle, “Skip,” came about.
He is survived by his wife: Joan South, children: Suzan Albertson of White Lake, Evert “J.R.” (Julie) South of Imlay City, Debora (Roger) Clemens of Lapeer, Cathy (Steven) Welling of Lapeer, Christine (Jeff) Irelan of Imlay City, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, siblings: Lucille Irelan, William South, Flora Irelan, Beatrice Hockey, Helen Eagleson and many extended family. Mr. South was preceded in death by his siblings: Berneda Zollman, Butch South and his parents.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Saturday, 12-4 & 5-7pm Sunday. With the funeral service 11:00am Monday, February 3, 2014 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer, officiated by Pastor Don Hadley. Burial will be in Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum.
