Jane Bates, age 72, of North Branch passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at
Ascension Genesys Hospital. Jane was born in Brown City, on January 4, 1950, the daughter of
Robert and Doris (Ryckman) Soldan. She grew up in North Branch and was a proud 1968
graduate of North Branch High School. Jane attended Mott Community College and graduated
with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked at Flint Osteopathic Hospital and Ascension
Genesys Hospital where she retired after 42 years working in the I.C.U. Unit.
Jane married Tom Bates on December 22, 1979 at the First United Methodist Church in North
Branch. Jane enjoyed bowling, golfing, knitting and playing cards. Most of all, she loved to
spend time with her family and friends.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Tom, her daughters, Dana Thomason and
Victoria Bates, her grandsons, Colton (Amy) Kitts, Garrett Kitts, Braden Vallee, Thomas Vallee,
Julian Freiburger and Alex Freiburger, her great-grandchildren Annberlyn Kitts and Ryker Kitts,
her brother, Jim (Connie) Soldan, her aunt, Betty Lamiman, her cousins, Alice and Craig, her
extensive co-workers and her many North Branch friends. She was preceded in death by her
parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane’s name may be directed to North Branch American Legion
Post 457 or North Branch Quest High School.
Visitation for Jane will be on Sunday, September 18, 2022, 1:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn
Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Monday, September 19, 2022, visitation will be 10:00 A.M.-
11:00 A.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00
A.M. with her daughters officiating. Cremation to follow.
