TOWNSEND, James D. “Jim” - of Atlas, age 84, died Saturday, April 16, 2022 at The Cottages of Davison.
Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 1pm Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Contributions may be made to Old News Boys.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on June 29, 1937, the son of the late James and Vera (Dullinger) Townsend. On October 10, 1976, he married Janet Sue Skaggs in Flint. James was employed for 39 years with General Motors. He worked as a Supervisor in Skilled Trades. Jim enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his wife. He was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. Jim was interested in finance and the stock market. Among his passions, Jim enjoyed horses and had many of his own. Jim was a very patriotic man and above all else he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are wife, Janet Sue;
children, Debbie (Ed) Schmitz, David (Cheron) Townsend and Holly (Mark) Zugcic;
grandchildren, Heidi Schmitz, Erich (Andrea) Schmitz, Cassie Thornsberry, Morgan Townsend, Remington Ballard and Zoe Townsend;
great-grandchildren, Fiona Schmitz and Everleigh Thornsberry.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Townsend.
Jim’s family would like to thank the Cottages of Davison and Compassus Hospice for their loving care.
