Israel J. Garcia was born on July 7, 1929. He was one of 9 siblings, living in Pontiac, Michigan. When he was a young teen, he caddied for the Bloomfield Hills Country Club. He gave most of his earnings to his mother. Israel joined the Marine Corps at age 17. Fought in the Korean War. He came home to marry his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou, and walked down the aisle with her in his dress blues. He and Mary had three children. He moved his family to Flint. Worked and retired from Buick Engineering. And on December 3rd, at 4:15 in the afternoon, with his three children at his side, Mr. Garcia slipped out of his room and finally, gratefully, started his journey home--toward one of those eternities we all travel to.
Israel is survived by two sisters and a brother, Jovita (Joey), Marta (Marty), and Rosendo (Russell); children: Michael, Mari Lynn, and Julianna; son-in-law, Craig Antrup, and his grandson is Kevin Antrup. His wife passed before him in August 2009.
