MORELAND, Betty Jane (BJ) - Of Grand Blanc, age 92, died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Burkholder officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to North Baptist Church.
BJ was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 16, 1928, the youngest of nine children of the late Daniel and Helen Dunatchik. She came to the Flint area when she was in her early teens. She was the proud valedictorian of Davison High School’s Class of 1946. After graduation she worked as an operator for Bell Telephone. She married Jack Moreland in 1950 and lived the rest of her life in the Flint and Grand Blanc areas. She was a lifelong member of North Baptist Church. In the 1960’s, while raising three sons, she went to work as a teller at Citizen’s Bank. She served at several branches in Flint and Grand Blanc before retiring in the 1980’s.
A lifelong fan of “Jeopardy!”, she auditioned as a contestant on the original “Art Fleming” version. Though she never competed on air, she lived the rest of her days convinced that she would have beaten any other contestants.
BJ enjoyed travel with her husband and friends, and especially enjoyed shopping. She was obsessed with the color green because it matched her eyes. Later in life, she combined that obsession with her love of leopard and all animal prints.
BJ was very kind and generous with a great sense of humor, and will be dearly missed by her family, her church community, and her many, many friends.
Surviving are sons Craig (Marie) and Keith (Jeannine) Moreland; grandchildren, Andrea, Michael, and Jack Timothy Moreland; her special niece, Darlene Young and family, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 59 years; Jon, the youngest of their sons; 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
