Michele “Mickey” West, age 67, of Metamora, passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother; sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Mickey was a 1973 graduate of Osborn High School in Detroit. She married Charles West in Detroit in 1977. Mickey spent a few years working as a court stenographer for the Detroit court systems before having two children and devoting her life to them.
A lifetime Catholic, Mickey was a church volunteer and religious education teacher. She was a carpool mom, a band mom, a dance mom, a sports mom, a Boy Scout mom, among many other things. Later in life she worked as a hospice volunteer and as a certified nurse assistant. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, reading and watching CSI (she loved the storylines of the show, but mainly watched it for her celebrity crush, Mark Harmon). She loved music, especially Motown, and was the instigator of many a kitchen dance party. She had the most welcoming heart and the greatest laugh that could fill a room.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her beloved family. Mickey was a funny, sassy, selfless and loving human being who went above and beyond to make everyone feel loved. We will always remember her love.
Mickey is survived by Charles West, her husband of 45 years; daughter Megan (Dave) Draper; son Nathan (Shauna) West; grandchildren Nick, Pace, Ava, Jordyn, Jackie and Allison; sisters Maureen (Scott) O’Keefe and Karen Sulkowski.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14th at 12:00 noon at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel. Father Michael Gawlowski will officiate. Friends may visit on Friday, April 14th from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Michele will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hurley Medical Center Burn Services.
