Garry Keith Adams, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 21, 2024 at McLaren hospital in Flint. Born May 6, 1950 in Durand, he lived a life deeply rooted in family values, hard work, and devotion to farming.
Garry graduated from Byron High School in the class of 1968. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Janet Marie Cole, marking the beginning of a cherished partnership that would stand the test of time for 54 years. Together, they found profound joy in raising their children— John, Sheila (David Cowes), and Keith (Adriana) Adams. He was preceded in death by his son, John. He loved his grandchildren, Darnell, Ona, and Iola. They called him Pa.
A lifelong farmer, Garry took to the fields with a passion that was woven into the fabric of his being. Through the changing seasons, he found contentment in the field work, taking care of the animals, an honest day's labor, and the satisfaction of a harvest well earned. He cared about his friends, neighbors, and community. Throughout the years he served on the Byron Board of Education, Burns Township Board, and Burns Township Board of Review. He also coached 4H softball, enjoyed helping Jan make a neighbor a home cooked meal, as well as assisting Santa from time to time.
Garry was a family man at heart. There was no place he would rather be than at home on his farm, surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. Family gatherings echoed with laughter and stories.
His interests included the great outdoors, where he pursued his love for hunting. Garry found pleasure in attending Byron High School football games, proudly watching his son and grandson coach. He enjoyed making breakfast for his family, especially for his granddaughters each morning before school; a limited menu but delicious. A true and devoted fan, he rarely missed watching the Detroit Lions even before they were good. The family trip he looked forward to was going to Shipshewana. He enjoyed the Amish Auction and seeing the Amish farmers at work.
Those fortunate enough to have known Garry will remember a man who was the embodiment of so many virtues—one could always count on his wise counsel, his ready assistance on any practical matter, and his sense of humor.
As we bid farewell to Garry, we cherish and honor his legacy—a lifetime of dedication to the soil from which he reaped so much happiness and to the family who was his pride and joy. Garry will live on in the memories of his loving wife, Jan; his daughter Sheila and her husband, David; his son Keith and his wife, Adriana; his precious grandchildren, Darnell, Ona, and Iola; his sister Ellie Miller, his dear lifetime friends Brian and Cindy Blackburn and many other family members, friends, and neighbors.
