CLAPPER, Robert Richard (Bob) - passed away at his home Saturday, January 25, 2014 with his loved ones by his side. Bob was born in Flint, Michigan on January 30, 1944 to Robert and Marie (Northey) Clapper. Bob was truly an icon of the East Side of Flint, where he owned and operated Deville’s Lounge for 35 years. Bob was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing and was a dedicated Spartan fan. The resurgence of the Spartan’s football team made these past few seasons especially fun for him.
Bob graduated from Davison High School in 1962. In his senior year, Bob became the starting quarterback and led the Cardinals to a winning season. He went on to Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Growing up in Flint, Bob treasured his memories of the East Side. Deville’s was a true neighborhood bar, where Bob’s regulars were like family. Bob was held in high regard by his patrons as well as his employees. Over the years, he quietly and privately helped many people in need. He was a firm believer in charity, especially around Christmas.
Bob enjoyed all of his grandchildren, but shared a special bond with grandson, Bobby.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his father, Robert Clapper; devoted children, Brooke, Shayne and Ramsey (Jill) Clapper; grandchildren, Bobby, Rourke, Rafe; siblings, Ron (Patty) Clapper, Linda (Bill) Polk, Terri (John) Christian; loving companion of 10 years, Meg Diurni; nieces & nephews, Gina (Walter), Ryan, Alison, Galon (Holleigh), Logan (Keri).
Preceded in death by his mother, Marie Clapper.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation prior to service 11:00 AM -1:00 PM . In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make contributions to The American Cancer Society.
