David “Dave” Craig Veenhuis, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Morton Plant Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
Born on April 21, 1951, in Flint, Michigan, Dave was the son of Gordon and Martha Veenhuis. He was a 1969 graduate of Flint Northern High School and
dedicated more than 30 years of service to General Motors, AC Delco, and Delphi before retiring.
Dave is survived by his son, David; brothers, Barry Hershon (Earline) and Greg Veenhuis (Rita); daughters-in-law, Dina and Cindy; and grandchildren, Logan, Ella, Chase, Lucas, Dylan, and Delilah. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Paula Lloyd, Rita Burt (Lee), Rochelle Hanner (John), and Diane Lloyd; brothers-in-law, Will Lloyd (Vickie) and Zac Lloyd; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews from both the Veenhuis and Lloyd families.
He also leaves behind his dear friend of 50 years, Joe Matrise, as well as nieces and nephews from the Matrise and Rocca families.
Dave and his late wife Ina began splitting time between Gladwin, Michigan and Palm Harbor, Florida in 2012. He had many cherished friends in the Gladwin community and at Bay Aire RV Park.
Dave was a devoted husband, fun-loving father and grandfather, loyal brother, and — when he chose to be — a brilliant employee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Martha Veenhuis; his beloved wife, Ina; his son, Jason; sister-in-law, Nina; and brothers-in-law, Lanny, Terry, and Eric.
A passionate fan of all things University of Michigan, especially football, and a loyal Detroit Tigers supporter, Dave also enjoyed exploring the United States and later cherished adventures through Europe and South America with his best friend, Joe.
He was an avid golfer first as a member of the Flint Elks Lodge 222; later of the Bay Aire golf league at Tarpon Springs Golf Course. Dave loved gardening and sharing his canned fruits and vegetables with friends and family. He was an excellent cook specializing in pizza and meatballs.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday June 14, 2025, with visitation from 12Noon Saturday until the time of the service at 2pm at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W Hill Rd, Flint, MI 48507.
