BAGGETT, Ernest William – of Burton, MI, age 68, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held on a later date.
Ernie was born in Flint, MI on September 18, 1957, son of Margaret (Munday) and the late Luther Baggett. On October 25, 1975, Ernie married his beloved wife, Sharon LaBelle. Together, they shared many wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and partnership until her passing on May 11, 2018. Ernie dedicated 30 years of service to General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. After retiring, he continued to pursue his many passions. A lifelong car enthusiast, he enjoyed working on hot rods with his brother, Duane, and took great pride in his award-winning 1978 Monte Carlo. He was a man of many talents: a sharp shot on the skeet range, a doomsday prepper “just in case,” a hunter and fisherman who loved the quiet of the woods, and a handyman who could build, fix, or rig up just about anything. Some of his best times were spent playing guitar and making music with his son, Dan. Ernie’s life was one well-lived—rooted in love, and filled with hard work, laughter, and purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and strength.
Ernie is survived by 2 children, Dan (Katrina) Baggett and Kelly (Brian) Rowlands; 2 granddaughters, Ariah Rutherford and Rossi Baggett; mother, Margaret Baggett; 5 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; 5 siblings; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Baggett and wife, Sharon Baggett.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Danny Hill, Duane Munday, Charlie Munday, and his sister, Diana for their compassion, friendship, and support throughout the years.
