It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Gay Ledford Porter, age 81, who peacefully went to meet Jesus on June 2, 2026.
Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Pastor Jeff King officiating.
Visitation will be held from 2-6pm on Wednesday, June 10, and 10am Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Linda was born on April 3, 1945, in Banner Elk, North Carolina, to Lee Ledford and Frances Ledford. As the oldest of six siblings, she spent much of her life caring for others, a calling that would become the foundation of who she was.
Linda met the love of her life, Myron Clair Porter Jr., in February of 1965, and they were married on January 14, 1967. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Mike Porter, Chuck Porter, Michelle Porter Shinn, and Sherry Porter Carpenter.
A devoted follower of Christ, Linda dedicated her life to serving the Lord, loving her family, and caring for everyone around her. She found joy in traveling, making memories, and preserving those memories through her cherished scrapbooks. Linda never met a stranger—anyone she encountered quickly became a friend. Her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit had a way of making everyone feel welcome, loved, and part of the family.
Linda’s faith was unwavering and served as a guiding light throughout her life. She lived with grace, compassion, and a servant’s heart, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, whom she faithfully served throughout her life. Her legacy of love, faith, kindness, and family will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Frances Ledford; her brothers, Bud Ledford, Bruce Ledford, and Richard Ledford; and her brother-in-law, Claude Kerley.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Myron Porter; her children, Mike (Autumn) Porter of Swartz Creek Michigan, Chuck (Katie) Porter of Gardner Kansas, Michelle (Tom) Shinn of Swartz Creek Michigan , and Sherry (Dale) Carpenter of Waxahachie Texas; her sisters, Brenda Kerley and Diane (Adolph) Gomez; and her grandchildren, Austyn (Kat) Carpenter, Destiny (Tristan) Hawkins, Morgan Porter, Emily Shinn, Ashley Porter, and Holly Shinn.
The absolute light of her life was becoming a great grandma to her great grandchildren, Mylah Elise Hawkins, Rowan James Hawkins, Westley Porter Hawkins, and Evangeline Michelle Carpenter. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her.
