CORDES (GLEFFE), DOROTHEA LUCY - age 95, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Clarksville, Virginia.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 402 South Ballenger Highway, Flint, Reverend Dean Dumbrille and Reverend Brant Engel co-officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions in Dorothea’s memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School.
Visitation 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mrs. Cordes will be at the church from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
Formerly of Flint Township, she grew up in Flint and later moved to her daughters in Virginia.
Dorothea was born in Austin, Minnesota on August 9, 1928, the daughter of the late George and “Lena” Adaline(Paul) Gleffe.
Dorothy graduated from Flint Central High School in 1947.
On June 24, 1950 she married Gerald P.A. Cordes at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Flint and moved to Flint Township and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 60 years.
She was a loving wife and secretary for her husband’s business, Jerry’s Excavating. She had many patches, pins and trophies from bowling and several 200 games.
She loved to entertain and had many parties for New Year’s Eve, weddings, birthdays, baby shows, baptisms and confirmations. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, 17 years with CMI Michigan/Ohio Choir traveling and performing in New York City, Russia and Israel.
She helped in the kitchen for many Fall Harvest Dinners at St. Paul, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of Stephen Ministries.
Dorothy loved her flowers and spent many hours in her garden. She was a devoted mother to her seven children and their many friends.
Surviving are seven children and their spouses; Jerry (Penny) Cordes, Diane (Dennis) Springer, John (Michiline) Cordes, Linda (Cordes) Strong, Kathleen (Cordes) Vega, Bonita (Cordes) Pelky and her fiancé Jack Reinhart and Karl Cordes;
seven grandchildren, Brandon, Troy, Jennifer, Michelle, Mario IV, Tabatha, Lucas and spouses;
9 great-grandchildren and a God-mother several times.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald P.A. Cordes married 56 years; brother, George Gleffe; sister, June Keyes; sons-in-law, Marc Strong and Mario Vega III.
