Palentyn, Sybille “Oma” Edith (Lange) – age 94, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025.
She was born March 15, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Gustav and Hildegard Lange.
Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Pastor Steve Wood officiating.
Visitation will be from 1-7pm Tuesday, October 14, 2025, and from 9am Wednesday until the time of service.
In 1951, Sybille married the love of her life, Heinz Palentyn, with whom she shared nearly seven decades of devotion and joy until his passing in 2019. Born and raised in Berlin, she carried with her a spirit of determination, grace, and confidence throughout her life. Sybille joined Heinz in the United States in 1959, where they built a beautiful life together and raised two sons, Thomas and Clay.
Known to all as Oma, she was the heart of the family—a gifted cook, baker, and host who filled every home with warmth and laughter. She and Heinz loved to dance, often spending summer Sundays at the Bavarian Inn’s Fischer Platz in Frankenmuth.
Oma was loving, clear-spoken, and steadfast—a true matriarch who cared deeply for those around her. She treasured her family above all else and was so proud of the successes of her children and grandchildren. She spent her final years close to family in Mt. Pleasant. She shared countless special moments with her great-grandson Joel, who brought her boundless joy.
Sybille was preceded in death by her husband, Heinz Palentyn; her son, Thomas Palentyn; her daughter-in-law, Ann Frances Palentyn; and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Palentyn.
She is survived by her son, Clay Palentyn; her grandchildren, Fae and Alesha Palentyn, Erica (David) O’Toole; her great-grandson, Joel O’Toole; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
