DAVIS, Marvin – Alma, Michigan, formerly of Flint, age 72, died Monday, December 5, 2022 at Margaret's Meadows Assisted Living.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 1022 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Visitation 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Marvin Davis was born on October 16th, 1950 to John and Irene Davis. As a child, he was interested in model cars.
He would later make a career at General Motors. During his teenage years, he boxed at Berston Field House in Flint, Michigan. He went to Beecher High - School where he played football. It was in his teen years he also met Barbara Jean Groat at church where his family attended. He signed up for the Marines during the Vietnam War. He learned to fly the Chinook helicopter as a medivac. His long military career included classified missions but credited angels for his protection. While briefly at home he married Barbara. He returned to duty flying his fallen brethren while evading deadly SAMs. When he returned he worked for General Motors. During that time he got his degree at Wayne State University in Alcohol Counseling. He used that training for the E.A.Pat UAW local 588. After Fisher Body closed, he finished his career on the assembly line in Flint building the world's best trucks. He retired from the Flint assembly and moved to Alma, Michigan. After suffering a heart attack, he followed doctor’s orders and loss a massive amount of weight. In October 10th 2011 he set a state bench press record for 60 year - olds in the raw (no apparel assistance) for his weight class. He passed away at Margaret meadows memory care in Reese, Michigan.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Davis, parents John and Irene Davis, grandparent Nancy Hinton-owl; sisters, Kathryn Cates and Bonnita Davis and pet "Sarge".
Surviving are his sister, Nancy Chippewa; sons, Marvin Jr. and Anthony Davis; many, many, many, nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Dakota, and treasured life partner, Carol Ivy.
