McCartney, Charles Edward “Ed” of Flushing, age 77, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Prabhu Lakra will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Robert Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic School.
Ed was born in Owosso, Michigan on April 23, 1944, the son of James Charles and Rose Adelaide (Mulcahy) McCartney. He married Joyce Birchmeier on February 12, 1966, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove. Ed worked for over 40 years as a Diesel Mechanic for Kurtz Gravel. He was a proud farmer his entire life and loved building the grain set up with his sons. Ed was a faithful member of St. Robert Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, camping and spending time behind the wheel, crop touring. His greatest joy was his family and the time he spent with his grandchildren, attending their various events.
Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce; children, Shawn and husband Dale Jandernoa, Alison and husband Stan Tomczyk, Michael and wife Michelle McCartney, Brian McCartney, Nicholas and wife Hanna McCartney; grandchildren, Eddie, Matthew and Luke Tomczyk, Elizabeth, Andrew and Christopher Jandernoa, Benjamin and Gavin McCartney, Nicki and Eve McCartney; siblings, Rosemary Schlaud, Phyllis and husband Joe Riley, Tom and wife Janie McCartney; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved farm hand, Jester the dog. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Rita McCartney.
