Thomas H. Skinner, age 88 passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Thomas was born December 3, 1933 in Flint, Michigan to the late Bennett and Doris Skinner. Thomas drove truck for Swartz Creek Elevator and Lumber Company from 1953-1962. In between those years, Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1958. He was known as "Farmer Boy", "He knows a lot but says a little". In 1962 he hired into the Chevrolet V-8 plant at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1992.
In 1959, Thomas married the love of his life Sandy. They lived in Swartz Creek since 1957 and during the winter months they would travel to Pharr, Texas. During their time in Pharr, Texas he became a woodmaker. Some of the items he created were wooden vases, bowls, and candle sticks. They also loved round and square dancing. They would travel all over the United States to attend the Square Dance Convention. But above all he enjoyed every moment spent with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's baseball and softball games. Thomas was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (David) Hager; grandchildren: Jennifer (Travis) Mitchell, Jason Hager; great grandchildren: Hunter and Hayden; sister, Liz Benedict; brother-in-laws: Darwin Wheeler and Greg Nestor; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Sandra; sister-in-laws: Marcie Wheeler and Rita Nestor. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Leader Dogs for the Blind in memory of Thomas.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E Hill Rd, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11am until time of service at Brown Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery, Grand Blanc, Michigan.
