WHITMAN, Ruth Mary (Cook) – of Davison, MI, age 97, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Linda Graham officiating. Private interment in Davison Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-6 PM Monday, December 6, 2021 and 10-11 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, in Ruth’s memory.
Ruth was born in Davison, MI on January 12, 1924, daughter of the late Warren and Verna (Scott) Cook. She married LeRoy Whitman on April 25, 1942 and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1985. LeRoy and Ruth lived most of their lives in Davison, except for about 20 years when they lived in Clio, MI. Ruth retired from AC Spark Plug and was a member of the AC Ladies Breakfast Club. She was a member and past president of the Flint Banjo Club for 30 years and loved playing her Banjo. Ruth was also co-founder and member of The Happy Wanderers Band and was the librarian at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She loved to work in her garden and her yard and enjoyed many crafts. Ruth was fiercely independent. Family was most important to her.
Ruth is survived by 3 children, Ronald (Colleen Fournier) Whitman, Connie (Bill) Hopper and Carol (Barry) Gallagher; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Ida May Crossen; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Verna Cook; husband, LeRoy Whitman; son, Donald Whitman; 3 siblings, Reva Smith, Warren Cook and Richard Cook.
