Ida Ruth Williamson, age 80, of Burton, died Sunday, November 8, 2020, at her home. Left to cherish her memory are her three loving daughters: Yolanda Williamson, Camilia (Ollie Fryer, Jr.) Williamson, and LeAndra (Ronald) Randolph; her five grandchildren: Petros (Reanna) Gheresus, Victoria (Bryndan) Arnold, Alexander Fryer, Ryan Randolph, and Lauryn Randolph; her four great-grandchildren: Marcellus, Alexander, Jr., Robel, and Hassan; her special nieces: Paulette and Elcoma (Nikki); her best friend, Mama Lottie; her Aunt Clemmie; her Uncle Bill; and her extended family members Dr. Petros and Lestine Gheresus.
Ida was born January 29, 1940, in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Booker and Virgie (Hales) Elmore. Ida met Leodis Williamson as a young woman while visiting her aunt, whose house neighbored his. Leodis was so taken with Ida that he devised a number of excuses to be near her; including painting his house day after day. Ida and Leodis started dating, fell in love, and were eventually married on Valentine’s Day of 1959. They shared thirty-eight wonderful years together until Leodis’s death on July 15, 1997.
Ida worked as a teacher’s aide at Garfield Elementary school for fourteen years until her retirement, and cherished the memories she made there with her students. She was a valued congregation member at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Flint for over sixty years. In her free time, Ida could be found crocheting, watching the gameshow network, and cheering on the Detroit Pistons and Lions. However, most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant the world to her. Those who knew Ida will remember her by her kind and generous spirit. Every day, she taught her daughters what it means to be a Christian woman. She was a phenomenal woman who will be missed by many.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Booker and Virgie; her loving husband, Leodis; and her brother, John Elmore.
Ida’s family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439.
