CRANE, Shirley Joan - Of Grand Blanc, age 95, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 at The Oaks of Woodfield.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Brian West officiating.
Burial in Flushing Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s research Hospital.
Visitation 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday and 12pm Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 6, 1928 to Stanley and Celia (Coffee) Rose. When she was one year old, the family moved to a farm near Flushing. She graduated from Flushing High School, Class of 1946. Shirley then worked for the Genesee County Library in its very early beginnings. She then worked at the Pentagon for the Navy and Marine Corps in Washington during the Korean War. After this, Shirley went to California where she worked for the Ginn Textbook Publishing Company in San Francisco. While there, she met her future husband. Shirley married Richard Crane on October 1, 1955 at Calvary Methodist Church in Flint. They enjoyed 52 years together. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2008. After marriage, Shirley worked at GMI for 2 years and then stayed home with her family. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband. Shirley was a member of Grand Blanc United Methodist Church for 60 years.
She leaves 3 children, Brenda Balducci of Grand Blanc, David and wife Lilia Crane of Santa Clarita, CA, and Laurie Crane of Chicago, IL;
4 granddaughters, Tiffany Balducci and partner, Rory of Calgary, Canada, Chelsea (Anthony) Balducci-Scott of Madison Heights, Bianca (Kyle) Little of Mt. Pleasant, and Madison Crane of Santa Clarita, CA;
great-grandchildren, Jackson, Maribel, Theo, Thor, Zoë, and River;
and several nieces and nephews.
Special thank you to all her friends and staff at Abbey Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard parents, sister, Mary Holmes, and many friends.
