Maria J. Perez, age 86 of Byron, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at the Lodges of Durand. Funeral services to celebrate Maria's life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Maria's family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
Maria was born on April 10, 1937 in Texas to the late Jose and Hermina (Garcia) Andrada. She married Martin Perez on October 25, 1955. In addition to their 4 children, The Perez’s took care of and raised several foster children over the years and would adopt 2 of them, bringing their family to 6 children.
Maria was a homemaker and worked hard to take care of her family and give them all a loving home. She had a strong faith in the Lord and passed that on to her family. Maria enjoyed needlepoint and watching her favorite shows, whether it be a lifetime movie or Dr. Phil. She was an avid baseball fan, following the Detroit Tigers, enjoyed wildlife and took pride in her son’s hunting and fishing. Family gatherings were centered around Maria and were usually hosted at her home where she loved the time spent with her family.
Maria is survived by 5 children: David (Debra) Perez, Barb McKone, Martin (Dawn) Perez, Donna Perez, Phillip Perez; grandchildren: Jessica (Jason) Chrysler, Jason (Jennifer) Perez, Jennifer Perez, Veronic L.J. Perez, Victoria V.C. Perez, KateLynn (Eghele) Egbo, Suzanne (Steve) Jarrell, Martin Roe; great grandchildren: Austin Fuson, Alexis Chrysler, Gage Perez, Christopher Poblette, Joslyn Chrysler, Kayla Poblette, Zachary Aguilar; great great grandchildren: Winter Lily, Blaze Eugene and Willow Rain Jarrell, ElizaBeth Egbo, EverLeigh Grace Chrysler; 2 brothers: Basilo (Cathy) Andrada, Joseph Andrada and sister, Irene Maldonaldo.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin; daughter, Lucy Roe; brother, Raymond Andrada; sister, Teresa Ramirez and son-in-law, Timothy McKone.
