Stephen Michael Sweeney, 63, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2023, with his family by his side. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. Burial will take place at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM Saturday until the time of the service.
Stephen was born March 19, 1960, in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Marguerite Sweeney. His father served our country as a tail gunner in WW2 and the Flint community as a firefighter. He was wed to Marguerite in 1951.
Stephen, a retired Flint City and Genesee County 911 Supervisor, graduated from Kearsley High School in 1977. He spent his younger years driving his gold Camaro where he met and married high school sweetheart, Sharolynn Weston-Sweeney. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and ran multiple businesses serving his community. He belonged to St. John’s Catholic Church and volunteered at many different charities throughout his lifetime. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Stephen knew he had an incredibly charitable spirit and felt the call to serve.
His hobbies and interests included antiquing, fishing, and playing slot machines. Most of all, he cherished his time with his beloved family. He was devoted to his wife of forty-three years and his three children. He enjoyed life as a grandfather and served as a loving caregiver when his family was in need.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Sharolynn Sweeney; Daughter, Carrie Schaaf (Anthony Schaaf); Daughter, Tracy Koepplin (Kyle Koepplin); Son, Robert Sweeney (Kugar Nettell), Grandchildren; Zander Schaaf, Elinor Koepplin, Conner Koepplin; Sister; Kathleen McKibbin (Daniel McKibbin); many nieces, nephews, cousins and his four-legged best friend, Walter.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Sweeney; father, Robert Sweeney; and mother, Marguerite Sweeney.
Donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
