Rzadca, Mary C. Of Flushing, age 96, our sweet and dear Mother, Mary, went to be with our Lord Jesus and Blessed Mary our Heavenly Mother, her husband Stanley, sons Martin and John, on June 16, 2021. Mary passed peacefully at the home of her daughter and caregiver Janet LaForest. She lived with and was cared for by Janet for 6 years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, Michigan. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church for Mass Intentions.
Mary was born in Howard City, MI on February 6, 1925, the daughter of William and Margaret (Schleich) Schmitz. There were seven children, Elizabeth Simon of Shepherd, MI is the only surviving sibling. Mary grew up on the family farm until her mother and father moved the family to Wyandotte, MI where she attended St. Joseph elementary school followed by graduating at Roosevelt High School in 1943. It is in Wyandotte, that Mary met and married Stanley Rzadca at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and together they raised 11 children in the church.
Even though Mary was busy raising her family, she was able to make time to helping others, always championing the less fortunate and the lonely. Volunteering at her church, being a member of the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, The Blue Army, and Fr. Solanus Guild (and several other organizations). Mary had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Blessed Mary through daily prayer (morning, afternoon and evening) and saying many Rosaries a day for her family, peace in the world, and many others whose names were on her ‘list to pray for’. She “walked by Faith, and not by sight”. And taught her children & grandchildren by example how to live the catholic faith, worship and trust the Lord.
Mary moved to Flushing, MI in 2006 to be near her daughter Janet. She attended St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. Mary enjoyed doing crocheting and other crafts at the senior center in town where she became friends with many. She was loved by everyone she met. Mary was your friend and treated everyone she met with kindness. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, instead, she looked always for the good in everyone. She was a quiet gift to the world, she didn’t look for praise or adulation, she wanted everyone to know about Jesus and to praise and honor Him. What a gift our Mother was to her family and friends. We love you and miss you Mom. We look forward to the day when we can be together again.
Mary is survived by her children Janet LaForest, Paul (Kathie) Rzadca, Stanley Rzadca, Gene (Cyndi) Rzadca, Marianne (Jeff) Jones, Steven Rzadca, Peter (Rena) Rzadca, Nancy (Gary) Frazee, Kristina (David) LaCourse. Her sister, Elizabeth Simon, 12 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and cousins in California & Germany.
