Ferne Hill, age 97, of Maumee, Ohio, formerly of Bridgeton, NJ, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 in the Elizabeth Scott Care Center. She was born March 4, 1913 in Merengo, IN to George and Mary Belle (Maloney) Archibald.
Fern was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; truly, the matriarch of a large, close-knit family. She devoted her life and boundless energy to home and family. Holidays were rich in tradition, filled with food, laughter, friends and family coming in from far and wide. For Fern and her lifelong devoted husband, Herb, both their farm in Bridgeton, New Jersey and their summer home on Lake Hortonia, Vermont were centers of activity which brought great joy to her because they were places she could enjoy with her family. She valued practicality, proper English, common sense, and hard work. She lovingly cared for many members in her family who battled illness, infusing them with her courage, humor and strength. Her passing will forever leave a void in our lives but we will forever carry her lessons and love for us in our hearts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert R. Hill, son, Dr. Craig Hill.
Left to cherish her memory are her faithful and loving daughter, Zoe (Kenneth) Moore; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hill, grandchildren, Kelly (Tim) Shirer, Lance (Janet) Hill and Ross (Sandy) Hill; great grandchildren, Chandler, Cameron and Conner Shirer, and Craig R. Hill, and Josilyn Hill Family and friends may visit Friday, November 5, 2010 from 4:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at Fernwood Memorial Park, Bridgeton, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Dr. Craig Hile Scholarship Fund, Delaware Valley College, 700 E.
