Helen L. Thomas, age 93, of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Nelson-House Funeral Home. Helen will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Helen was born on October 29, 1932, in Mississippi, the daughter of Newton and Genieve Summers.
Helen was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life and, above all, in the people she loved. She enjoyed playing softball, listening to bluegrass music, and baking her specialty biscuits and gravy. Her faith, however, was at the very center of her life. Her church and church family held a special place in her heart, and the love she shared with them was an important part of who she was.
Helen married her first love, Roy Gossett, who passed in 1985. After his passing, Helen was blessed to find love again with Richard Thomas, whom passed in 2005.
Helen devoted much of her life to raising and caring for her family. She gave of herself generously and took great pride in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and the memories they made together will be treasured for generations to come.
Helen is survived by her children, Bob Gossett, Deborah (David) Pyland, and Gary (Diane) Gossett; grandchildren, Lucky Pyland, Kris, and Zachary Gossett; 2 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Gossett; her second husband, Richard Thomas; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
