Jean Ann Darnell of Grand Blanc, age 93, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Jean was a long-time residence of Grand Blanc living for over 70 years on Halsey Road. Funeral service will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI., Pastor Don Phillips will officiate. A private burial will be at Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm and on Wednesday until time of service.
Jean was born on September 10, 1927 in Port Huron, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary Ellen (Gordon) Kersey. She was united in marriage to Clarence (Buck) Darnell on December 5, 1946, in Flint.
Jean did a lot of volunteer work within the Grand Blanc elementary schools, was a member of the Grand Blanc Heritage Society, hosted Halsey Old Timers, and had taught Sunday school, and held various board positions within the Halsey United Methodist Church in Grand Blanc. She raised 8 rascally children and loved to cook and host huge family gatherings. She had a passion for cross-word puzzles, sewing, needlework and various other hand-stitch crafts.
She leaves to cherish her memory seven children: Chris and Steve Hart of Holly, MI., Mary and David Latimer of Beulah, MI., Dale Darnell of Jacksonville, FL., Lynne and Don Yost of Millington, MI., Pat and Cheryl Darnell of Loveland, CO., Andy Darnell of Interlochen, MI., and Catherine Burns and Tom McLean of Lewiston, MI.; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, son Gerald, sister and brother-in-law June and Clarence Thorpe, daughter-in-law Diane Darnell and great grandsons Chase, Michael, Andy, and Steven.
The family would like to thank The Maples (Benzie County Medical Care) and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care given to Jean. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice at https://www.heartlandhospice.com in memory of Jean.
