SMITH, Donald W. – of Flint, MI, age 91, was Promoted to Glory on Sunday, January 2, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Donald W. Smith, Jr. officiating. The family will receive visitors 1-7 PM Saturday, January 15, 2022 and 11 AM-2 PM Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home. Interment, with Military Honors, 9:30 AM Monday, January 17, 2022 at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The procession to Great Lakes National Cemetery will line up 8:30 AM Monday, January 17, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army Flint Citadel Corp, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coral, MI or a charity of one’s choice.

Donald was born in Flint, MI on July 20, 1930, son of the late Peter and Alice (Snell) Smith. He married Myrtle Johnston on April 14,1951 in Flint, MI and she preceded him in death on February 2, 2006. Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, where he was stationed in Korea. He was a life member of the VFW Post #8236 where he served as Post Commander and Quartermaster. Donald also served as Quartermaster for the VFW State Honor Guard for several years. He retired from General Motors Buick after 36 years of service. On July 20, 2013, Donald married Peggy Ann Just and she preceded him in death on June 23, 2020. He enjoyed bowling, camping, Sudoku and crossword puzzles.

Donald is survived by his 4 children, Donald W. (Leah) Smith, Jr., Ronald G. Smith, Daniel D. (Deborah) Smith and Carrie I. (Kenneth) Herrick; 7 grandchildren, D. Thomas Smith, Michael C. Smith, Rachel L. (Roy) Harris, Jennifer H. Smith, Sarah E. (Justin) Shaw and Joshua A. (Tuesday) Herrick; 6 great-grandchildren, Jacob Shaw, Cassidy Shaw, Evan Smith, Joseph Otte, Claire Otte and Octavia Herrick ; 4 step-children, Betty (Rodney) Hubbard, Joan (Herb) Combs, John Burrough and Dutch (Teresa) Burrough; brother-in-law, Victor Scram; many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Alice Smith; 2 wives, Myrtle Smith and Peggy Just; daughter-in-law, Marci B. Smith; grandson, Ross Douglas Smith and 3 siblings.
