WALTER, RENA M. – Of Naples, Florida, age 103, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, with Father Carl Simon officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Family and friends will gather from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation will also be held from 10:00am on Monday until the time of Mass at church.
Rena was born in Flint, Michigan on March 17, 1921, the daughter of the late Leroy and Katherine (Glaser) Berry. She was married to Richard C. Walter. Rena was a devout Catholic her whole life. She was a strong person, overcoming many difficulties in her life. Family was very important to her. She raised 7 children and always made sure they were taken care of. Rena, along with her husband, Richard loved to entertain family and friends. In her free time, Rena gave back to her community through volunteer work with the church, Meals on Wheels, and as a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader. She was an avid Notre Dame and Detroit Tigers fan. Rena was a Bridge master, tournament champion and taught all of her family members how to play multiple card games.
Surviving are children, Patricia L. Rast, Susan E. Jewett, Dennis M. Walter and Katherine M. Ozimek;
17 grandchildren, Lynn (Al) Vis, Lisa (Tim) Swortwood, Barb Foster, Denise (Chad) Cook, Richard III (Heather) Walter, Robert (Aileen) Walter, Heather (Paul) Gennuso, Richard (Lisa) Nagengast, Tom (Deanna) Nagengast, Anne Johnson, Lance Tuck, Zachary (Amanda) Walter, Julia Martel, Benjamin Walter, Samantha Walter, John (Taihlor) Ozimek and Andrew Ozimek;
25 great-grandchildren, Skye (TJ) Rabidue, Jazmine Wiltse, Katie and Judy Swortwood, Amber Hays, Faith Foster, Trevyn and Nathan Kukin, Richard IV, Reece and Alyssa Walter, Ryan, Ashton and Ainsley Walter, Alex and Emma Gennuso, Valerie Nagengast, Jacob (Shelby) and Joseph Nagengast, Justin, S. Douglas and Kimberly Johnson, Abbi Sutton, Ethan Walter and Lucas Tuck;
6 great-great-grandchildren, Calvin, Sawyer, Evie, Greysen, Zeppie and Aerie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Walter; daughter, Sherran L. Kukin; sons, Richard C. Walter II and Jeffery J. Walter.
