Versie (AKA Versa) Lee (Willingham) Berry passed away November 14, 2020. NO PUBLIC VIEWING. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. FACE MASKS MUST BE WORN, THANK YOU. Versie was born September 21, 1937 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Asilee Jimmy Luiway-Monts and from this union, nine sons and five daughters were born who proclaimed a life of endeavor and affirmations. Versie was the last child of this union, a beloved daughter among fourteen siblings. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ came early because she was reared in a God fearing home, who worshiped together at St. Paul CME Church, Pine Bluff, Arkansas and remained faithful to the call unto the end of her earthly life. Versie graduated from Coleman High School on May 16, 1956, she excelled in the subjects of reading and math She often spoke of her childhood reminiscing of the time she sang in a church quartet with her nieces, Tommie, Letha and Thera Mae; fondly speaking on how they were invited to local hometown churches to sing. Mother sang soprano, what a beautiful voice, I would love to hear her sing. After the death of her mother she left Arkansas and went to live in Chicago, Ill, residing with her brother Preston and her dear sister-in-law Ollie B. and their two children, but later decided to travel to Flint, MI to live with her brother W.G. and his wife Narzree and their two sons. Spring of 1957 she met the love o f her life at a gathering in Flint, MI, Sam Berry Jr. whom is a native of the State of Arkansas. They later were joined in marriage September 3, 1957, in Flint,MI. Unto this devoted matrimony, four children, thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren . In 1968 she gained employment with General Motors, Buick division and taking great pride in her work she retired with 30 years, serving on the Mother Board Auxiliary, Sunday School Teacher, 16 years of service as a volunteer with McLaren General hospital and volunteer as a reading advocate with the Flint Public Schools. Mother highly valued her relationship with God, often telling family and friends "Thank God for Jesus". She knew Jesus was the center of strength of her life. She spent precious moments in speaking about the wonderful stories of the Bible. Always steering you to our savior Christ Jesus. Versie dedicated herself and her life to charity and to the service to others. Always helping those whom she loved with the principles of service, love, grace, and mercy. Those whom were touched by her knew well of her giving spirit, beautiful countenance, sense of humor, and her strong work ethic. She is deeply missed and her memory will be treasured by all who encountered her. Versie leaves to cherish her memory dedicated husband of 63 years, Sam Berry, Jr., daughters, Sandra (John K. III) Patton, and Tammy berry, son Rodney Berry Sr. all of Flint, MI; grandsons Quintin (Brooke) Berry of Canton, GA, John IV (Keyandra) Patton of Ypsilanti, MI, Lavell Berry of San Antonio, TX, Ryan Patton, Rodney Berry, II, Demetrius Berry, Sam Berry III, James Willis; granddaughters Ver'Lesa Berry, Dana Berry, Sondra Berry, Eu'Neke Berry all of Flint, MI, Angel Berry, Marlton, New Jersey; great grandchildren Zae'montay, MaRyah, London, Zoey, Lennox, Za'kariana, Aria, De'Monte, John V, Kayden, and her special furry friend Brie; sisters-in-law Bernice Johnson, Mae F. Allen, both of Texarkana, AR, Rose (Albert) Kitchens of Hooks, TX, Gracie Berry and Arthuna (Willie B.) Berry of Jackson, MS, favorite brother-in-law Richard (Ozie) Berry, dear sister-in-law Ollie B. Franklin. A host of nephews, nieces whom she loved dearly; special friends Frances Duncan, Bessie Steward, Brenette Coleman, Doris Williams, Lillie Langston, Nettie Barnett, Bertha McLaughlin, (cousin) Rose Tobias, Ben Ester, James Hawkins, Artis Shackelford. A host of special family members, spiritual family, and lifelong friends who were part of her life. Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Rena Berry, parents, Thomas and Asilee Willingham, father and mother-in-law Sam Sr. and Odessie Berry, her precious siblings, Chester, Arthur, W G, Robert, Rex, Edward, James, Preston, Thomas Jr., Novice, Hazel, Dorothy, Mack, Thelma, in-laws Cloma Willingham, Vernice Stewart, Roosevelt, Curtis and James Berry, (special cousin) Theora Shackleford, nieces Evester and Letha and dear friends, Patty "Patsy" Pace, Emma Langston-Robinson. The family would like to express gratitude to Tawanda Anderson (Respite Home Care Giver), Kindred Hospice Care Nurses and Dr. Ernesto Duterte, MD and Dr. Madan Arora, MD.
