Dick was born on November 30, 1941, to Robert and Lenore Diffin in Port Huron, Michigan. Dick married “the love of his life,” Judy (Wendling) Diffin, on February 2, 1974 at St. Michaels Catholic Church.
Dick served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for over 40 years at General Motors/Metal Castings, serving as a Shop Chairman in the 1980s and 1990s. He was appointed as a UAW International Representative in Detroit in 2000 where he developed a reputation as an relentless advocate for union employees. He served in this capacity through his retirement in 2004.
Dick was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. He served as a Lector and in the Choir. Dick was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, serving a term as a Grand Knight.
Most of all, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grand-dog, Hydro. While Dick liked to portray the image of a “tough guy” – those close to him knew he had a kind and gentle soul. He was a generous, considerate, and loving person, willing to help anyone in need. He lit up a room with his smile, even as his health deteriorated.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judy Diffin; his children, Aaron (Brandy) Diffin and Danielle (Josh) Diffin; his grandchildren, Denver Diffin and Jaxon Diffin; his brothers, William (Judy) Diffin and Robert Diffin; In- Laws Jean Ebenhoeh, Irene Cooper, Tony (Barb) Wendling, Gary (Rose) Birkmeier and Beverlee Diffin; many nieces and nephews, and countless cherished relatives and dear friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers James Diffin and Thomas Meyer, brother-in-laws, Duane Wendling, Sr., Donald Ebenhoeh, and Donald Cooper, and sister-in-laws, Donna Wendling and Dace Diffin.
The family would also like to thank the amazing staff at Concerned County Care Assisted Living where Dick spent the last few years as well as the Emergency Department and $ North Staff at St. Mary's Hospital. |
