Bobalik, Andrew of Flushing, age 92, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at McLaren-Flint. The Office of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Flushing. The Very Rev. James Batcha officiating. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing and 9 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the Liturgy, with a 9:30 a.m. Panachida service. Masks and social distancing measures will be in place, with a limit of 25 people at any given time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Byzantine.
Andrew was born in Flint, October 6, 1928, son of the late Michal and Julia (Revilakova) Bobalik, Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants from Slovakia. He graduated from Flint Northern High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Andrew was united in marriage with Patricia Skarbek on April 12, 1969, at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Flint. He was employed for 39 years by General Motors, working at Buick Motor Division, retiring in 1992. Andrew was well known for his easy-going nature and great sense of humor. He was a very talented artist and musician and loved to play the accordion. He was very proud of his Carpatho-Rusyn heritage and had a deep love for his Greek Catholic faith, being a lifelong parishioner at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. He enjoyed Detroit Tigers baseball, polka music, playing the lottery and going to the casino. He was a past member of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, Dom Polski of Flint, Men’s Club at St. Michael Byzantine, St. Robert Seniors and UAW Local 599.
Andrew was a loving husband and father and is survived by children, Andrew (Kelly) Bobalik of Flushing, James Bobalik of Rochester Hills, and Anne Marie (Troy) Bobalik of Flushing; brother-in-law, Dale Lipar of Caro; special Godchildren, Theresa Delecki of Flushing and Mark Bobalik of Durand; numerous nieces and nephews and Godchildren. In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Pat; sister-in-law, Joanne Lipar; brothers, John Palencak (Martha), Michael Bobalik, Joseph Bobalik (Helen), Peter Bobalik (Ann); and sisters, Mary Stringer (Leonard) and Helen McCloskey (Jack).
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Kori Hendricks, his caregiver for the last two years. Her care, compassion and kindness will always be remembered.
