PUNG, Ronald Albert – of Clio, age 85, died Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Olson Manor in Midland, Michigan. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church. Rev Fr. Denis Spitzley officiating. Cremation to follow. The family will receive visitors on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio and at the church from 10AM until time of mass. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center.
Ronald was born April 22, 1938 in Ionia, Michigan to the late Leo and Josephine (Smith) Pung. He grew up in Westphalia, Michigan and attended school there. Ronald proudly served his country in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. On July 25, 1971 he married Jacqueline Hagerty in Zilwaukee, Michigan and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2019. Prior to his retirement in 1997, Ronald worked as a Crane Operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324 with 34 years of service. He was a member of the SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Men’s Group and helped with funeral luncheons at the church. Ronald loved tractors, bird watching, especially the blue birds, and volunteering at St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center. He enjoyed going to Menards, fixing things, and spending time at his cabin in Kaleva, Michigan. Ronald was a Devout Catholic with a strong faith. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2890. However, one of his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and their friends. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at Olson Manor for the love and care they provided to Ron.
Surviving are: Children, Ronald (Leah Fork) Pung Jr. and Kristen (Adam) Julian; Grandchildren, Jason Fournier Jr., Robert Fournier III, and Spencer Fournier; Sister, Mary (Leon) Theis; Sister in law, Mary Ann Pung; several nieces and nephews.
