James was born in Flint Michigan on May 4, 1936, son of the late Emmert and Lucille Brandt. Jim was not only a proud Navy Veteran but also a first responder hero. He had a long career as a Firefighter in the City of Flint Fire Department retiring in 1989. He was extremely proud of this and loved being a part of the Firefighter family. He stayed in contact and attended the luncheons with his fellow retired Firefighters up to and including events this year. Jim was an avid camper, hunter, and fisherman. He not only loved these activities himself but was also a patient and knowledgeable teacher to anyone that wanted to experience the outdoors. Jim also gave back to the community by coaching youth ringette teams for many years and was a positive role model for the kids who were lucky enough to have him as a coach. In addition to his coaching of ringette, Jim also donated his time to manage community softball teams and enjoyed playing also. Jim was a person to be active and involved and loved being up north at the families hunting shack that has the name “Almostready”. Even though it has been there for about 50 years it is still “almost ready to be used” according to Jim and his siblings. Jim moved up north and spent about 23 years enjoying that area, the people, and members of his family there. While living up north, Jim added being an Equestrian to his list of hobbies. He loved working with the horses, including Cash and Savannah and spending time with his amazing dog, Garth.
Jim is survived by his second wife Cheryl, his first wife Mary, his sister Mary Beth Kanera (Rick), his Daughters Susan Hilden and Karen (Curtis) Williams, his Grandchildren Nicholas (Emily) Williams and Samantha (Jason) Baker, his four great grandchildren Charlotte, Emma, Grace, and Oliver. Also, his adopted son Daniel and his step-children Tonya, Pat (Cary), Sarah and Terry (Montana), as well as many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Patsy Stanley and his brothers Bill and Rob Brandt and son-in-law David Hilden.
