O’Guinn, Donald B., Sr. - of Flushing, age 83, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastors Ed and Ron Emmerling will officiate. Private burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-8 PM, Thursday from 2-8 PM, and Friday from 10 AM until the time of service at 11.
Don was born October 14, 1938, in Lake City, Arkansas, to the late Coy and Fay (Blount) O’Guinn. He graduated from Hoover High School in Flint in 1956. Don married Beverly Goza on December 22, 1956. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2015. He was a U.S. Army veteran with overseas service in Germany and France. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Union - Local 7, where he retired with 35 years of service as a longtime employee of Davanay Plumbing & Heating and Dee Cramer, Inc. Don was a member of Westside Church in Flushing and a former member of Riverdale Baptist Church in Flint. He was a youth leader at both churches and was very active with his senior group at Westside. He spent several years in Clio before moving to Roscommon, where he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and working on inventions. He also had a lifelong love of horses, boxing, auto racing, and spending time with his family. He was dearly loved by so many and will be forever missed.
Surviving are four children: Don O’Guinn, Jr. of Flushing, Lori (Jim) Rathbun of Flushing, Dan O’Guinn of Fenton, and Scott (Jennifer) O’Guinn of Flint; Grandchildren: Sean (Amanda) O’Guinn of Linden, Cesiley Rathbun of Flushing, Aaron O’Guinn of Grand Rapids, Christian O’Guinn of Lansing, and Jordan O’Guinn of Fenton; Great-grandson, Brewer Brill; His beloved dog, Dixie, and grand-dog, Boomer; Cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Don was also preceded in death by his sisters, Velma and Coyla, and his grandson, Ryan, in 2020. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Angel Manor in Clio for their love and extra special care of our father.
