YALDA, Agnes Lazar - Of Flushing, age 95, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her residence with her loving family present.
Funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Flushing Presbyterian Church, 5010 West McKinley Road, Flushing.
Reverend Dawn Russell officiating.
Burial in Assyrian Cemetery, Flint.
Contributions may be made to the Assyrian Cemetery, Leelanau Conservancy or to Warda Scholarship.
Visitation 11am-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint with a time for sharing held at 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation 10am Thursday at church until the time of the service.
Agnes was born in Flint, Michigan, on November 14, 1922, the daughter of the late Samuel and Almas (Baba) Lazar. On June 25, 1949 she married Samuel Yalda in Flint and he preceded her in death on August 9, 1993. Agnes was a former officer of the Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association. She was inducted into the Genesee County Women’s Hall of Fame for her innovative work in public dental health. She was a skilled potter and enjoyed Ikebana. She also volunteered at the Leland Library, Leland Museum, and the North End Soup Kitchen in Flint. Agnes was a member of the U of M Alumni Association. She was a member of the Leland Community Methodist Church and attended Flushing Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are children, Christine (Mary Vaccaro) Yalda, Timothy Yalda, and Kim Marie Yalda;
Grandchildren, Nolan Yalda, Adrian (Anne Marie) Yalda and Cyrus Yalda;
Siblings, Nelly Warda, Paul Lazar, Mary Jeanne Elia;
Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews;
And Sister-in-law, Sarah Daniels.
She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel and brothers, Julius and Jack Lazar
