Rena was born in Alpena, Michigan on August 12, 1922, the daughter of the late Albert and Florence Rabinette. She married Jack Ward in Pasadena, California in 1943, Rena was a lifelong resident of the Flint area and a graduate of Davison High School. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Rena lived a long and wonderful life. At the time of her death she was 101 years old, leaving behind a legacy of caring for others, seeking adventure, creating beautiful artwork and a great sense of humor. Long before working from home became the norm, Rena setup her basement with industrial grade sewing machines to make custom drapes for Sears and private clients.
While Rena’s interests were unbounded, her top priority was always her children. How do you make 7 needy children all feel like the favorite? Somehow she just did it. She never tired of having kids around as all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren can attest to.
Eventually, the house became quiet and Rena took this as an opportunity to pursue a lifelong ambition of traveling around the world. As with everything else, she approached this with gusto and ended up visiting 4 continents and at least 15 countries. In between travels there was no time for rest in Rena’s busy world. This presented another opportunity - to reignite her passion for china painting. Over the years she produced hundreds of pieces which were always given to someone, never sold.
Rena was a member of Holy Redeemer parish for over 70 years and spent countless hours volunteering in the school and various church groups.
Our glimpse into Rena's life just scratches the surface of this amazing woman, mother and grandmother. She definitely made the world a better place.
Surviving are children, Chuck (Mary), Gary (Nina), Bob (Barb) Carole and Jim (Sandy);
sister, Norma Reimel;
22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack of 44 years, sons, Jack and Kenneth and siblings, Don, Albert, and Howard Rabinette.
