Conway, Melvin Lee of Flushing, age 71, passed Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Genesys Health Park surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating Melvin's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Rossell Funeral Home, Flushing. Rev. Kenneth Sharp will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service.

Melvin was born in Saginaw, MI on May 9, 1943, the son of Orison and Dorothy (Straight) Conway, and spent his childhood at Shady Shores Park, Lupton, MI. He married the love of his life, Pamela Beck in Mio, MI on August 17, 1963. He was employed by General Motors Buick Division, Flint, MI with 42 years seniority, retiring from the Buick Engine Plant in 2004, where he was the Quality Director for the 3800 Engine. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 599.

Besides his family and job, Melvin loved woodworking, genealogy, writing stories, remodeling his and Pamela's two homes, and working on cars, especially his 1965 Chevy pick-up with son, Christopher. He was currently the Chairman of the Millington-Arbela Historical Society in Millington, MI.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Pamela; daughters, Kimberly and Steven Reedy of Minot, ND, and Lynn and Douglas Haglund of Davison, MI; father, Orison Conway of St. Louis, MI; brothers, Douglass and Linda of Oscoda, MI and Randy of Lansing, MI; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Carter Conway of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Miner and Alex Reedy of Minot, ND, Brandon and Nick Haglund of Davison, MI, Jonathon and Shelby Conway of Flint, MI; great-grandson, Joshua Miner of Minot, ND; along with many relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by son, Christopher; mother, Dorothy; grandparents, Paul and Jannetta Conway, Hiram and Florence Straight, and father and mother-in-law, George and Mabel Beck.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society of Millington, MI, the Otisville Area Historical Association, Inc. of Otisville, MI, the Rose City Historical Society of Rose City, MI or the Ogemaw County Genealogical & Historical Society of West Branch, MI.

The family wishes to thank the various doctors, nurses, techs, and other staff at Genesys Health Park who provided comfort and care to Melvin and his family these past 17 days.
